SOLIDWORKS 2D to 3D Conversion

As we already know, SOLIDWORKS can import DXF/DWG drawings directly into a SOLIDWORKS part or drawing file. Importing a DXF/DWG into a drawing file decreases the time spent on having to edit the drawing view annotations and dimensions.

Although importing a 2D file aids in the final drawings used for production, there is still the stumbling block of not having the final 3D model as a part file. Before you rush to your computer to redesign from the original 2D file, consider using the SOLIDWORKS 2D to 3D toolbar!

Additive Manufacturing
Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a term to describe the technologies used to build 3D objects by adding layer-upon-layer of
material, whether the material is plastic, metal, concrete, etc.Common to AM technologies is the use
of a computer, 3D CAD software, machine equipment and material. Once a CAD model is made, the AM equipment
reads in data from the CAD file and start to build the layers of liquid, powder, sheet material or other,
in a layer-upon-layer fashion to fabricate a 3D object. AM manufacturing includes processes such as

SOLIDWORKS Electrical to PDM Connector

Different types of engineers typically work differently.  Though electrical engineers work in a totally different way than mechanical engineers, today’s complex design projects require tighter integration between the two disciplines.  As the design is changing at a rapid pace, and products need to be developed quicker, disparate engineering teams MUST work closer together.

SMAP 3D Plant Design demo

This week Rudolf van den Berg takes us through a demo of Smap3D Plant design software.

Bio: Smap3D Plant Design

Smap3D Plant Design is 3D CAD software for fast, easy design of 3D piping systems for mechanical engineering, equipment production and plant design. It provides an integrated software solution for an optimal process chain in plant design. With one specialized program for each process step (Smap3D P&ID, Smap3D Piping and Smap3D Isometric), the required solution can be tailored to individual requirements. The P&ID To-Do-List is a function integrated in Smap3D Plant Design which creates an intelligent connection between S3D P&ID Schematic and 3D piping.
